Doug Hamilton
  • ARTIST'S STATEMENT:  "My work in sculpture and painting should be called extraction rather than abstraction. I extract little bits of what I see or experience and then look for their elemental relationships.  Visual expression is pared down to a form or a geometry that simplifies those relationships and their tensions. This whole process is similar to channeling poetic expression into the sonnet form.  There is an order in this geometric abstraction that seems to drive me. Photography serves as a journal of my brain’s reaction to what is going on in front of my eyes."
